2011Musical

For over 35 years, the Shasta High School music department has performed a Broadway-caliber musical involving 60-80 vocal and instrumental students.  Held in the spring in the David Marr Theater at the Shasta Learning Center, the musical is known throughout the north state for the quality vocal and instrumental performance, dancing, and acting of the entire student cast, and spectacular set and costume design.

Tickets are now on sale for the five-time Tony award winning Music Man, performed by Shasta High School's outstanding Music department.  This beloved family musical will be held May 4th-7th and May 12th-14th at the beautifully restored David Marr Theater in Redding.  Directed by Gavin Spencer, the production includes a cast of 70 students and a live orchestra led by Lou Polcari.

This critically acclaimed Broadway classic is an all-American institution, thanks to its quirky characters, charmingly humorous dramatic situations, and one-of-a-kind, nostalgic score of rousing marches, barbershop quartets and sentimental ballads that have become popular standards ("Seventy-Six Trombones," "Till There Was You," "Wells Fargo Wagon"). The musical became a Broadway hit in 1957, winning five Tony Awards including Best Musical, and running for 1,375 performances. The cast album won the first Grammy Award for Best Original Cast Album. The show's success led to a film adaptation in 1962 and a television remake in 2003.
