This
critically acclaimed Broadway classic is an all-American institution,
thanks to its quirky characters, charmingly humorous dramatic
situations, and one-of-a-kind, nostalgic score of rousing marches,
barbershop quartets and sentimental ballads that have become popular
standards ("Seventy-Six Trombones," "Till There Was You," "Wells
Fargo Wagon"). The musical became a Broadway hit in 1957, winning
five Tony Awards including Best Musical, and running for 1,375
performances. The cast album won the first Grammy Award for Best
Original Cast Album. The show's success led to a film adaptation in 1962
and a television remake in 2003. |
